Aufgaben
European Homecare GmbH, part of the Serco company, has been providing social services on behalf of the public sector for over 30 years in around 100 facilities nationwide with a total of around 2,000 employees in the field of care, accommodation and support for asylum seekers and homeless people.
We have an exciting (and challenging) opening for a Head of Accounts in Essen.
Rollenverantwortung
As Interim Head of Accounts you will be responsible for:
Accounting:
- Preparation and management of the Serco month-end process in compliance with Serco’s GFCM and in line with Group deadlines.
- Ensuring all aspects of IFRS and German GAAP are followed.
- Accounting for regular and one-off accruals is processed.
- Assuring revenue recognition in line with IFRS15 which includes preparation of monthly un-billed debtors, deferred income, and other mechanism of revenue accounting (i.e. CtC, Milestones).
- Loading payroll journals.
- Posting all journals which are required to assure right and accurate month end accounts.
- Monthly reconciliations of balance sheet, trade creditor and trade debtor accounts in accounting system.
- Preparing monthly Cadency reconciliations and quarterly balance sheet reviews.
- Support regular and ad-hoc reporting on management accounts to local management and contract managers.
- Completion of monthly BPC Consolidation reporting and BPC ICO processes.
- Prepare annual German statutory accounts together with the Finance Manager.
Accounts payable (AP), trade creditors, and travel expenses
- AP team and PI process:
- Support, monitor, and train the AP-Team in relation to
- Accuracy of vendor invoices, including VAT subjects.
- Correct and precise accounting.
- Preparing and executing bank payments.
- Ensure approval process is followed in accordance with the DAM.
- Month end process and deadlines are followed.
- Travel Desk team and BERs:
- Support, monitor, and train the Travel-Desk-Team in relation to
- Ensuring correctness of BERS and authorization in line with the DAM.
- Correct and precise accounting, including VAT topics.
- Correct and timely settlement of BERs.
- Improvement of current manual processes, systems and workflows through automation.
Accounts receivable (AR), and trade debtors
- AR team and customer invoicing process:
- Support, monitor, and train the AR-Team in relation to
- Accuracy of customer invoices, including all subjects of VAT, customer as well as contractual requirements.
- Ensure approval process is followed in accordance with the DAM.
- Correct and precise accounting.
- Ensure month end process and deadlines are met.
- Improvement of current manual processes, systems and workflows through automation.
- Review the Billing Handover Documents together with the Contract Managers and the Finance Manager.
Treasury:
- Oversight of the operation / petty cash process.
- Review petty cash procedure to ensure it meets Serco GFCM guidelines.
- Regular visits to sites to make spot checks and ensure compliance with procedures.
- Administration of bank accounts (including reconciliations).
- Submission of regular statutory statistics (i.e. AWV-Meldung).
- Submission of daily, monthly, and quarterly reports for Serco Treasury.
- Support in the preparation of the cash flow forecast.
ICO
- Monthly ICO accruals / unbilled:
- Identify and post ICO journals which are required to ensure ICO matching within the Group.
- Monthly Intercompany Reconciliation / Reporting:
- Reconcile ICO balances with counterparties in Serco.
- Aline ICO P&L with Serco partners.
- Ensure ICO matching and validation reports are cleared during the month end process.
Tax & VAT
- Calculate and post monthly tax accounts as part of the month end closure.
- Regularly identify and account for deferred taxes.
- Monthly VAT reporting:
- reconcile P&L and VAT accounts.
- prepare and submit monthly VAT returns.
- Prepare and submit quarterly VAT reports (ZM-Meldung)
- Prepare quarterly Serco tax packs.
Asset register:
- Fixed assets:
- Creating and disposing fixed asset in line with Serco’s GFMC, German GAAP and tax rules.
- Maintain and regularly reviewing fixed asset register & inventory.
- Identify and account for immaterial assets in line with IFRS and German GAAP.
- Operating leases:
- Getting Operating Leases created and disposed in Serco’s Tagetik system in line with IFRS16.
- Reviewing monthly IFRS16 reports received from Tagetik.
Audits:
- Support Serco internal audits and conduct GFCM self-assessments.
- Support quarterly IFRS audits of the Serco Group.
- Lead local statutory audits.
- Support Tax inspections.
Der ideale Bewerber
Essential technical and professional skills, knowledge and qualifications:
- Have worked with Corporate Accounting and ERP software preferably SAP.
- Result oriented, quality focused and a proactive team player who is able to work independently.
- Strong personality with hands-on approach.
- High team and communication skills, as well as quick comprehension.
- Fluency in German and English.
- Very good understanding of MS Office.
- Flexible ways of working.
Essential technical and professional skills, knowledge and qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with a focus on accounting / taxes / audit or alternatively completed commercial education with additional training as a certified accountant (Bilanzbuchhalter).
- +5 years experience in accounting.
- Experience in leading a finance team >10 staff.
